ACC Receives Grant from Sierra Health Foundation to Conduct Community Strengths and Needs Assessment |
||
ACC Receives Grant from Kaiser Permanente for “Healthier Living - Chronic Disease Self Management Program”Did you know that 12 million older adults have chronic conditions like arthritis, diabetes, and heart disease? Do you have a chronic condition and/or do you care for a loved one with one or more chronic conditions? ACC’s “Healthier Living” workshops, partially funded by a generous grant from the Kaiser Permanente Foundation, are for you. “Healthier Living” is a workshop given two and a half hours, once a week, for six weeks. People with different chronic health conditions, or who are caring for someone with chronic health problems, attend together. Workshops are facilitated by two trained leaders. ACC Receives Grant from Anthem BlueCross Foundation, LLC to support “Lifelong Learning & Wellness in Southside Park”Thanks to support from the Anthem BlueCross Foundation, LLC, LLWP classes such as tai chi are now available at three sites in the Southside Park area of Sacramento; Parkview Presbyterian Church, William Land Elementary School, and New Helvetia Housing. Most classes are taught by bilingual instructors.The goal of this initiative is to educate elders on health issues, increase awareness of available community resources, and promote physical activity and healthy living. In addition, there are plans to provide intergenerational classes for students and families at William Land Elementary School. Classes are held at the following sites: William Land Elementary School 2120 12th Street, Sacramento, CA Tai Chi Mondays, 9:00-10:00 a.m. Chinese Calligraphy Fridays, 3:00-4:00 p.m. Parkview Presbyterian Church 727 T Street, Sacramento, CA Tai Chi - Tuesdays, 7:00-8:00 a.m. New Helvetia Community Room 816 Revere Street, Sacramento, CA Tai Chi - 8:30-9:30 a.m. * We are looking for experienced instructors who are willing to donate their time and expertise to help expand classes in this program. Darren Trisel wins AAHSA Outstanding Mentor AwardDarren Trisel, ACC’s Chief Operations Officer and Nursing Home Administrator, won the 2009 American Association of Homes and Services for the Aging (AAHSA) Dr. Herbert Shore Outstanding Mentor Award. Darren received his award at the annual AAHSA meeting in Chicago in November 2009. |

ACC Designated a Sacramento "Focal Point"On Tuesday, May 23, 2007, the County Board of Supervisors passed a resolution COMMENDING FOCAL POINT ASIAN COMMUNITY CENTER DURING OLDER AMERICAN'S MONTH - MAY 2007. The resolution comes on the heels of actions by the Area 4 Agency on Aging and County Aging & Adult Services Commission to designate ACC one of several Focal Points for older adult services in the county. |
