Understanding Aging and Memory Loss - Part II: July WorkshopsBy Susan Sarinas Last October, in a unique collaboration with the Alzheimer's Association, UC Davis Alzheimer's Disease Center, the Asian Pacific State Employees Association (APSEA), and the UC Davis Clinical and Translational Science Center (CTSC), ACC’s Bridge to Healthy Families (BHF) project hosted a series of four workshops. The workshops provided an introduction to dementia, information on prevention and treatment, caregiver stress and caregiver resources. This July 2011, we are following up with three other workshops that will cover several important issues that were not previously addressed. Do you know what you can do to keep your brain healthy? Are you struggling with the idea of moving a loved one with Alzheimer’s from their home? Do you have questions about financial and legal issues? Are you dreading end of life decisions? Join us for this special series of workshops that can help you make informed choices. ACC Receives Grant from Kaiser Permanente for “Healthier Living - Chronic Disease Self Management Program”Did you know that 12 million older adults have chronic conditions like arthritis, diabetes, and heart disease? Do you have a chronic condition and/or do you care for a loved one with one or more chronic conditions? ACC’s “Healthier Living” workshops, partially funded by a generous grant from the Kaiser Permanente Foundation, are for you. “Healthier Living” is a workshop given two and a half hours, once a week, for six weeks. People with different chronic health conditions, or who are caring for someone with chronic health problems, attend together. Workshops are facilitated by two trained leaders. Subjects covered include:
ACC is partnering with community organizations to offer Healthier Living workshops periodically at ACC and other locations. ACC Receives Grant from Sierra Health Foundation to Conduct Community Strengths and Needs AssessmentSierra Health Foundation funding is supporting a community strengths and needs assessment. ACC will partner with other agencies to do this study, the results of which will enable us to better understand and plan for the service needs of our Asian American and Pacific Islander elders. ACC Designated a Sacramento "Focal Point"On Tuesday, May 23, 2007, the County Board of Supervisors passed a resolution COMMENDING FOCAL POINT ASIAN COMMUNITY CENTER DURING OLDER AMERICAN'S MONTH - MAY 2007. The resolution comes on the heels of actions by the Area 4 Agency on Aging and County Aging & Adult Services Commission to designate ACC one of several Focal Points for older adult services in the county. |
