A Message from Connie Rusynyk

ACC is a special place, a unique community within the community of Sacramento!  Years of tradition, loyalty, and rich history.  2023 has been a year filled with change and new beginnings for ACC and its communities. The Care Center celebrated the grand re-opening of Azalea Lane with a successful event well attended by the community and political leaders. On November 14, 2023, U.S. News and World Report, the global authority in health care rankings and consumer advice, announced the 2024 best nursing homes, and once again the Care Center is recognized as one of the best nursing homes in the categories of Long-Term Care and Short-Term Rehabilitation and is in the 19% of skilled nursing homes that earned a high-performance rating. We appreciate Care Center Administrator Doug Hawkins and the outstanding staff of the Care Center.

ACC Maple Tree Village had an excellent survey thanks to the outstanding leadership of Yesenia Jones!  ACC Greenhaven Terrace is making plans to modernize several units in 2024 while they continue to enjoy 90 percent plus in occupancy within both the independent and assisted living sides of the community; thank you, Brittany Yamada!

Our Home and Community-Based Programs under the leadership of Jeri Shikuma leads the charge to identify new ways of helping our seniors in the community, including their new PEARLS program!  The PEARLS program helps to educate the community and help those suffering from mental health issues and depression.  We celebrated ACC Ride’s 20th anniversary of giving rides in the community and honored Virginia Wieneke for her 20 years of service in the Rides Program.

Successful fund-raising events including the Big Day of Giving, the new Pan-Asian Cookbook, and a record-breaking Ohana Walk are just some of the significant events presented this year.  ACC has also been very proud of the fact that we have offered all of our amazing programs to the community at zero cost since the beginning of the pandemic, almost a three-year period!  As we move into 2024, we feel that we need to charge a small fee for our robust programming.  We will begin to charge a monthly fee of $20, which will give participants full access to all in-person and online programs. Should you choose to pay 12 months in advance, you will enjoy a 10% discount for a total of $216 for the entire year!  These fees will go towards paying our instructors and other costs that are incurred to provide the programs that you all have come to enjoy.  We thank you in advance for your understanding and hope that you have enjoyed the last several years of free programs!  The new charges will begin March 1st, 2024.  Knitting, Cards and Conversation, and Social Hour will continue to be complimentary!

Meals on Wheels by ACC has welcomed a new Executive Director to our Meals on Wheels program, Kirk Utzinger!  We are all excited to see what new and innovative leadership will bring to this vital program serving almost 500,000 meals per year within the greater Sacramento area.

We would like to thank the community for your support throughout 2023!  We have accomplished a lot and could not have done it without each and every one of you!  As we move into 2024, we will also be looking at new ways to continue bringing the community together with the support of our volunteers, committee members, and all those who continue to make ACC the very special organization that the community has enjoyed for the last fifty years!

Wishing everyone a very Happy and Healthy New Year!
